Mary Joan Johnson, 77, of Independence, passed away Sunday night, August 29, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Independence.

She was born March 13, 1933 at Hutchinson, KS to David Gideon and Adelene (Brady) Johnson.  For many years she lived in Winfield, KS before moving to Independence 15 years ago.

Miss Johnson attended St. John Missionary Baptist Church with her friends when she was able to attend.

Survivors are her care givers, Juanita Wilson, Casey Johnson-Russ, Amber Branham, and Mitoya James all of Independence, and her guardian Velma Pippin of Coffeyville

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2010 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1800 West Laurel, in Independence.  Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence.

Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.

Memorials are suggested to St. John Missionary Baptist Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
