Coffeyville - \n\nOn November 7, 2013, while sleeping, the angels came to transport Jim to heaven where he will have comfort and peace for all eternity. During recent years, he experienced some pain and suffering but endured with strength, grace and a positive attitude. \n\nBorn in Coffeyville, KS to Lorrence Alger and Mary Jewell (Robb) Mahaffy on July 21, 1943, the middle of three children. Jim grew up and lived in Coffeyville all his many years. Jim attended schools in Coffeyville, graduating from Garfield Grade School, Roosevelt Jr. High, Field Kindley High School and Coffeyville Junior College. He completed two years of schooling at Pittsburg State University. Participating on the debate team in high school was an activity Jim especially enjoyed. \n\nJim's adult life was active and filed with endeavors and pastimes of interest. He taught himself to play the piano and organ. Bird hunting season found Jim ready to try his luck and skill. He was willing and ready to help his parents maintain their home and provide loving care during their later years. Jim especially enjoyed participating in family gatherings over the years. His baked beans were always requested at each big family meal. \n\nJim was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother, Larry Mahaffy of Santa Clara, UT; and his sister Mary Ann Garner and husband Larry of Coffeyville. He was treasured by nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews whom he read to and gave bicycle rides. \n\nJim's desires were for remains to be donated to the University of Kansas Medical School. Friends may sign the register book for Jim from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. A family visitation receiving friends and a Memorial Service Celebrating Jim's Life will be held at a later date.
