Leonard Johnston Obituary (1949 - 2023)

Leonard R. Johnston, 74, of Coffeyville passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was born on April 1, 1949, in Vinita, Oklahoma to Raymond and Ruby (Vail) Johnston. Leonard grew up and attended school in Vinita. In 1973, he married Wilma Rupert, in June they would have celebrated their 50th Anniversary. Leonard was a certified mechanic and worked his entire career taking care of automobiles, he loved fixing anything that was broken. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved eating what he caught as long as it was fried and finishing it off with apple pie. Survivors include his wife Wilma of the home, his sister, Joanna Horne and husband Robert of Tulsa, Oklahoma, three niece Susan Curran of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Melinda Karns, and Amanda Cortez both of Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sister Vickie Karns and Jessie Johnston, and one nephew Steven Leonard Karns. Following Leonard’s wishes cremations will take place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. No formal services are scheduled at this time.
