Sedan- Treva Doreen Gentry, 93, Sedan, passed away Monday, December 24, 2012, at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan. She was born on September 23, 1919, in rural Lowe, Kansas, to Thomas William and Lettie Blanche (Sanborn) Banning. She attended school at Lowe through the eighth grade before moving into Sedan to help care for her nieces and nephews. For many years she worked for Paul Keeney at a cafe in Sedan until becoming a homemaker. \n\nOn December 9th, 1949, she married Lee T. Gentry, Jr., in Howard, Kansas, and they made their home in Sedan. Lee preceded her in death on May 30, 1993. \n\nTreva was a wonderful mom and grandma. She enjoyed playing dominoes, cooking and being with her family. \n\nSurvivors include: Three daughters: Sharla and Chris Jeffery, Sedan; Marsha and Rodney Dickens, Sedan; Nancy and Greg Boicourt, Fredonia; one sister, Beulah Petty, Sedan; and one brother, Wesley Banning, Howard. Six grandchildren: Amy Dickens Lampson, Wichita; Carrie Cummings, Sedan; Tyler Boicourt, Joplin; Brett Dickens, Sedan; Kristen Miller, Sedan; and Kylee Grigsby, Chanute. \n\n13 great-grandchildren: Jaden Jeffery, Drew Lampson, Keaton Dickens, Jacie Cummings, Brycen Dickens, Jansen Grigsby, Kenzie Miller, Landry Grigsby, Aubrey Lampson, Emma Boicourt, Douglas Cummings, Chester Cummings, & Huntur Cummings. \n\nTreva was also preceded in death by five sisters: Elnor Banning, Thelma Sanders, Neva Jean Sanders, Lois Petty, and Glodene Sanders. \n\nFuneral services will be held on Friday, December 28th at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sedan with Rev. Gene DeWitt officiating. A private family burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan. \n\nFamily and friends may call on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. \n\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Tallgrass Rural Health Clinic of Sedan or the Sedan City Hospital and remembrances may be left in care of the David W.
